Three years later, a lost wedding ring is found under Coconuts restaurant in Fort Lauderdale

We are kicking off our section of waterfront restaurants, with a feel good story about a lost wedding ring found under the wooden deck of a waterfront restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.

Three years ago, a New York couple was enjoying a meal by the water at a South Florida restaurant when the man’s wedding ring slipped off his finger, through the wooden floorboards, apparently lost forever.

Ryan Krivoy, the manager at Coconuts in Fort Lauderdale, had to limit his eatery to takeout and delivery orders because of the coronavirus, WPLG reported. The popular outdoor deck, overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, was idle because there was no on-site eating, so Krivoy decided to replace the splintered wood, according to the television station.

“We were cleaning up the debris down there and we noticed a bit of a sparkle, and we picked up a ring,” he said. “Once we washed it off, we realized there was an engraving on the inside.”

The engraving read “Mike & Lisa 08-21-15.” That was where some of the staff started their quest to find the owner.

“We took to Facebook and basically put the post up as a long shot,” marketing manager Sasha Formica said. “That was on Monday, and on (Thursday), Lisa called the restaurant.”

Three days later, the happy wife called to claim the ring, the Sun Sentinel reported. She even texted pictures of her and her husband eating there in 2017 as proof.

The post had been shared about 5,000 times, and it found its way to the married couple, who live in New York.

The restaurant shipped the ring back to the couple and the manager Krivoy took the $100 bills and a rare coin from 1855 that may be worth as much as $2,000 for the tip jar to share with the staff.
